APRR motorway network: 7 new e-Vadea Truck charging stations for electric heavy goods vehicles
As part of its strategy to promote low-carbon mobility, the motorway operator APRR is continuing to expand its network of electric charging stations to support the energy transition in road transport. This year, SPIE CityNetworks, in collaboration with the investor Flash, is rolling out its e-Vadea Truck network – specifically designed for electric heavy goods vehicles – at seven new APRR service areas.
A strategic network on APRR’s motorway network
This new network complements the existing one for light vehicles and marks a key step towards facilitating long-distance travel for electric lorries.
As the operator of over 2,300 km of motorways, mainly in the central-eastern quarter of France, APRR is putting its network at the service of new, more sustainable forms of transport. The seven e-Vadea Truck stations will soon be brought into service at the following service areas:
- Chien Blanc – A6
- Sandaucourt La Trelle – A31
- Dijon Brognon – A31
- Dijon Spoy – A31
- Besançon Champoux – A36
- Besançon Marchaux – A36
- Bourg Teyssonge – A40
In response to the rapid growth of the electric heavy goods vehicle market, these locations have been designed to cover major transit routes and meet the operational needs of hauliers.
Stations designed to scale up to megawatt capacity
Each station will be equipped, from the moment it comes into service, with at least four 400 kW ultra-fast charging points, accessible via a Combo CCS2 connector. Designed to support the growth of electric road transport, the sites are scalable and compatible with the future introduction of MCS (Megawatt Charging System) charging. Ultimately, a power output of up to 1.2 MW per charging point is envisaged.
Services tailored to drivers’ needs
According to SPIE CityNetworks, during the shortest mandatory breaks, the e-Vadea Truck network will enable an electric heavy goods vehicle to regain a range of around 300 km. To facilitate the use of this infrastructure, SPIE CityNetworks has developed a multilingual mobile app. It allows users to be guided to the most suitable station, book a charging bay and pay for it directly via the app. Payments can also be made by credit card or via a mobility operator badge, ensuring great flexibility of use.
A project aimed at decarbonising road transport
In this project, Flash is acting as an investor, having already partnered with APRR and SPIE to roll out the e-Vadea network for light vehicles. Guillaume Hérent, Managing Director of APRR, said: “This partnership, in collaboration with SPIE CityNetworks, strengthens the electric charging network for heavy goods vehicles, which has been in operation since 2024 between Paris and Lyon. This collaboration accelerates the roll-out of high-performance technologies across the network, enabling everyone to travel long distances with peace of mind. It is another step towards a carbon-free motorway.”
