APRR has chosen Allego to install fast and ultra-fast charging points at 31 service areas
Having fitted 100% of its service areas with electric charging points, APRR motorways are taking a new strategic step to support the growth of electric mobility. The Eiffage Group concessionaire is expanding its network by equipping around 20% of its rest areas in partnership with Allego. The aim? To meet the growing needs of electric vehicle drivers and accelerate the reduction of the motorways’ carbon footprint.
In light of the boom in electric mobility (with over 1.4 million electric vehicles now on the road in France), this agreement with Allego aims to significantly increase the density of charging infrastructure on APRR motorways. The aim is to meet growing user demand and ensure they can travel with complete peace of mind, particularly during busy periods such as the start of the holiday season.
By 2022, the APRR motorway network had already installed charging points at all its service areas and now has over 1,000 charging points. With Allego, a renowned European operator selected following a tender process and distinguished by the quality of the customer experience it offers, APRR is taking a significant step forward by installing charging points at 31 additional rest areas and 5 service areas.
In practice, 31 service areas will be gradually equipped by May 2028 along the A5, A6, A31, A36, A39, A71 and A77 motorways. Upon opening, each station will have an average of 11 charging points. Designed as a scalable system, the scheme is intended to adapt the number of charging points according to demand and will be able to offer up to 31 charging points by 2035. Consequently, the number of charging points on the APRR motorway network will eventually double.
“Motorways are the essential backbone for successfully decarbonising transport on a large scale. By using service areas to strengthen the existing network, we are removing the final barriers to enable people to embark on long-distance journeys in electric cars with peace of mind. Together with Allego, we are rolling out a charging plan that adapts to the driver’s pace, rather than the other way round. This scalable scheme bolsters our infrastructure, which is already 100% equipped at service areas, to cope with increased traffic flows, particularly during peak holiday periods” says Guillaume Hérent, Managing Director of Eiffage’s motorway concessions in France.
