Expercité : a facelift for Toulouse-Matabiau Station pedestrian precinct
Toulouse Metropole Urban Community’s local public development company Europolia, in charge of the TOULOUSE EURO SUD-OUEST project, has called on Expercité to carry out development work on Matabiau Station’s “Canal” precinct. Eiffage Énergie Systèmes’ brand for cities and local authorities has appointed its experts to redevelop this pedestrian area, which is especially popular with local people.
Our teams built new infrastructure (earthworks and civil engineering) under pressure from major coactivity and phasing demands, in order to upgrade urban lighting on the “Canal” precinct. They rolled out power cables and raised 38 streetlights, then connected up and commissioned the facilities. The precinct is now punctuated by six 13-metre streetlights topped with lamps supported by the Occitan cross (symbol of Toulouse). At the same time, our employees built dry network infrastructure (power, telecoms, traffic lights and access control) for Toulouse Metropole and Enedis. In addition, Europolia chose our consortium for lighting enhancement work on the Bayard lock covering project opposite Matabiau Station. Our experts used an underbridge unit to reach the concrete girders supporting Bayard lock spanning the Canal du Midi opposite the station, and install lighting for the passing barges and associated sensing systems.
The new, more spacious and safer precinct has now been extended via a wide wooden footbridge partially covering the canal above the lock - a light, attractive development facilitating access for travellers, and also for the many users of the new TESO district. This business centre designed by Europolia will be ideally located at the terminus of the future Paris-Bordeaux-Toulouse High Speed Link (HSL) scheduled for 2030. It is also to benefit from a second metro line in the years to come.
