Senegal: a new power cable for Gorée
On 9 January 2018, the Mayor of Gorée Augustin Senghor, General Manager of the Senelec Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé and Eiffage Sénégal's CEO Gérard Sénac inaugurated the new underwater electric power cable linking Dakar and Gorée Island.
This 2.7 km cable has an improved capacity of 6.6 to 30 KV and cost 1.3 billion CFA.
The Government has had two generating units installed on the island since 2014, to ensure its power supply after the failure of the old cable.
M. Cissé expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the works and compliance with deadlines, and stated that Gorée "deserved the service more than any other part of the country, as a symbol and a world heritage site of memory visted by the world's highest authorities".
For Augustin Senghor, "a new era is opening up for Gorée, as if the island were being reborn in light with these successful and sustainable works".
Gérard Sénac expressed Eiffage Sénégal's satisfaction at having carried through such an important project for the well-being of the Goreans, and thanked the Senelec's General Manager for his confidence. He also recalled the strong links between Eiffage and Gorée Island, where our company has been spearheading societal initiatives since 2003.
On the sidelines of the launch ceremony, the delegation also inaugurated "Cœur de Gorée" ("Heart of Gorée"). Marc Montaret's work was installed on the Place de Gorée in May 2017, having been presented by Eiffage as part of the Regards sur Cours Exhibition (where artists, sculptors, designers and creators exhibited their works in local residents' courtyards and gardens).
