Eiffage and NGE, acting as a consortium, have won a contract worth €233 million to build lot 1 of the Toulouse’s third metro line, the second contract they have won as part of this project
A consortium formed of Eiffage and NGE has been awarded a second contract by Tisséo, Toulouse’s metropolitan transport authority, to carry out the civil engineering work for the tunnels, stations and structures on the future Line C of the Toulouse metro system between the Colomiers ancillary structure, located 100 m from Colomiers Gare station, and the Laporte ancillary structure (lot 1). Overall, the contract is worth €233 million (Eiffage’s share: 65%; NGE’s share: 35%).
The consortium, which is represented by Eiffage through its Eiffage Génie Civil subsidiary, will be responsible for carrying out the studies and building a 3.85 km tunnel, three stations, and four inter-station ancillary structures. The contract also encompasses the construction of three galleries connecting shafts to the tunnel.
Just as for lot 2, this part of the project will employ various advanced techniques, such as a next-generation tunnel boring machine and fibre-reinforced concrete segments using less steel in 95% of the project. These concrete segments will be manufactured by the consortium itself at a new plant in the Toulouse region. Carasol® , a soil analysis technique developed by Eiffage, will also be utilised.
To curb the project’s impact on the local community, the consortium will take various measures limiting the disruption to activities in the surrounding area and to passenger journeys. As part of its environmental commitments, the consortium aims to recover over 80% of the excavated material. It has also given undertakings to reduce the project’s carbon footprint through the use of primarily renewable energy, clean vehicles, and eco-designed, low-consumption
installations.
The project will provide employment for up to 550 people and include 70,000 hours under access-to-employment programs, with training accounting for 20% of the total. Around 150–200 new jobs will be created. The project will start up in spring 2023 following a three-month preparatory period. The infrastructure is scheduled for handover in summer 2027 prior to development and equipment installation works followed by commissioning in 2028.
At the beginning of February, Eiffage and NGE were awarded a contract worth close to €590 million to build lot 2 of the future Line C of the Toulouse metro between the Laporte ancillary structure and Raynal station, which extends lot 1.
