An ITA Tunnelling Award for the Line A XXL Project

Eiffage Génie Civil and its partners Tisséo Ingénierie, project owner, and Arcadis, leader of the project management group, won first prize in the "Technical Project Innovation of the Year" category at the ITA Tunneling Awards awarded on Monday 18 November 2019 in Miami by the International Association of Underground Tunnels and Spaces (AITES) for the extension of three underground stations on the Toulouse A metro line.

An ITA Tunnelling Award for the Line A XXL Project

This project, which will provide a framework for travel in the urban area, will allow the doubling of the transport capacity of the first Toulouse line, which was commissioned in 1993 and is currently saturated, by the end of 2019. The expansion was carried out without interrupting the commercial operation of the metro and the volume created was taken from the existing tunnel. Thus, the 210,000 passengers who used Line A daily were immersed for more than a year in this construction site, which is a world first.

Ensuring the continued operation of the métro and passenger safety during the work were the major challenges of the operation. The innovative techniques used to achieve this objective led AITES to identify this project carried out by a consortium led by Eiffage Génie Civil and including BG, Icop, Fontanie and Forézienne.

This success rewards the Eiffage group for a complex multi-business project that has also involved Ævia, Eiffage Route and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes. Since 2015, the ITA Tunneling Awards have been recognizing large-scale infrastructure projects and cutting-edge technical innovations.
