Quarries: cryogenics for the environment

In our quarries, we don't just talk about the ecological transition. At the Bocahut site in Haut-Lieu in northern France, the first CO² capture demonstrator will soon be installed on a lime kiln.

Quarries: cryogenics for the environment

Eiffage Route is working on this project with the start-up Revcoo, which has developed a technology to capture carbon dioxide from factory chimneys.

At the start, 2 tons should be captured each day and the pilot could increase to 20 tons by 2022, with the ultimate goal of 64 tons. Paul Taton, an engineer, became involved in the fight against greenhouse gases during a trip to Alaska when he saw the permafrost melting. He created Revcoo in Lyon in June 2020, after having patented a technology for capturing carbon dioxide by cryogenics.

This technology has several ecological and economic advantages over amine capture, where the smoke passes through a solution of non-recyclable solvents. It creates no waste and uses no consumables. Even liquid nitrogen is produced from the 78% of nitrogen in the air, using a pressure release method.

The ecological transition at Bocahut is now!
