The objective of this project is to construct a new 700-meter quay wall with a steel frame.
The old wall had become too unstable. Several holes were made, in which explosives were inserted. The operation was carried out during the high tide. The detonations thus took place under water. The debris was evacuated by barge thanks to a pontoon grab.
The new wall will consist of gigantic steel piles, sheet piling and backfilling. Bulky concrete panels will form the front side of the wall, a real challenge given that a panel can weigh up to 200 tons.
Completion of the project is planned for 2020.
