Eiffage Énergie Systèmes takes part in upgrading four school complexes in the Lyon metropolitan area, to improve energy efficiency

Eiffage Énergie Systèmes is currently working on four school complex projects, either under construction or undergoing energy-efficiency refurbishment, in the Greater Lyon metropolitan area. Our experts are implementing technical solutions on each of these sites - covering heating, ventilation, cooling, plumbing and sanitary facilities - that are tailored to the comfort and energy efficiency requirements expected in educational establishments. By 2029, the facilities in these four school complexes will have been rebuilt or modernised as follows:

Charles Perrault School Complex (Vénissieux)

In Vénissieux, the existing school is being replaced by a new two-storey building covering 3,700 m², bringing together the nursery school, primary school and school canteen on a single site. The works, scheduled to run from July 2026 to May 2028, include connection to the existing boiler room, a dual-flow ventilation system provided by three air handling units (AHUs) with CO₂ level control in classrooms and adiabatic cooling, as well as radiator heating. Vénissieux town council is the project owner, alongside architects Dalmas Architectes Associés and engineering consultancy Katene.

Pompidou-Mourguet School Complex (3rd arrondissement, Lyon)

The project combines rebuilding Georges Pompidou Primary School with refurbishing Laurent Mourguet Nursery School, to create a school complex comprising 18 classrooms spread over 3,100 m². The works currently underway began in December 2025 and will be completed in June 2027. Our specialists are in charge of connecting the building to a district heating network, as well as installing a dual-flow ventilation system via three air-handling units serving the primary school, the canteen and the sports hall, complete with CO₂ control and adiabatic cooling. Heating will be provided by radiators controlled by room temperature sensors and radiant panels in the sports hall. The kitchen is to be fitted with variable-flow extractor hoods, and some of the toilet facilities will be equipped with water-reuse systems. The City of Lyon is the project owner, working with architects Tectoniques and engineering consultancy Alto Ingénierie.

Michel Servet School Complex (1st arrondissement, Lyon)

The Michel Servet school complex, comprising a nursery and primary school, is undergoing energy-efficiency refurbishment, which began in July 2026 and will be completed in May 2028. The works include the installation of a dual-flow air-handling system and relocation of the school canteen. The project involves flushing the heating systems, installing a dual-flow ventilation system comprising four air-handling units fitted with carbon filters, radiator heating, and a kitchen fitted with extractor hoods. The City of Lyon is project owner, in collaboration with AP Architecture and engineering consultancy Ceteam.

Jean de la Fontaine School Complex (4th arrondissement, Lyon)

This school complex, comprising 21 classrooms spread over 7,320 m², began its energy-efficiency refurbishment in June 2026, with completion scheduled for October 2029. Our experts are upgrading the existing boiler room and installing a dual-flow ventilation system comprising eight air-handling units, with CO₂ control in the sports hall, the dance studio, the gymnastics hall and the multi-purpose hall. The heating system will combine radiant panels and radiators, while the kitchen is to be fitted with variable-flow extractor hoods. The City of Lyon is project owner, alongside Samba Architecture and engineering firm GBA Energies.

For these four projects, each school cluster will have a building management system (BMS) linked to that of its local authority, ensuring centralised control of the facilities once the works have been completed.

“When we undertake energy-efficiency refurbishment in a school complex, we absolutely must carry out the work on Wednesdays, outside school hours, and during the holidays, so as to minimise disruption, particularly during the younger children’s nap time. We therefore need to liaise more closely with the occupants to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible,” said David Simonot, Large-Scale Commercial Projects Department Head. Energy-efficiency upgrading projects often require work to be carried out on occupied premises. That is why, over the years, our specialists have developed this expertise by adapting to their clients’ requirements, whether renovating school complexes or office blocks.
