Eiffage completes work on the first section of the future Tema Harbour in Ghana
Where there used to be only sea, a new port is rising from the waves. In December 2018 Eiffage was able to fulfil its commitment to deliver the first section of the future Tema Harbour to Meridian Port Services, thanks to some dedicated work from Eiffage Génie Civil and RMT’s teams.
Thus 350 m of wharf and 5 hectares of port hub have now been placed at our client’s disposal, and the first ship delivering harbour cranes (the biggest in the world) was able to dock on 20 December at a brand-new quay.
Today, Tema Port Expansion Project is Eiffage Génie Civil’s biggest worksite on the African continent. We employ hundreds of people and have set up no less than four industries including a paving stone plant producing around 140,000 blocks per day.
The project involves building a container terminal with a surface area of 100 hectares and 2,000 m of dep-water dock enabling very big freighters (draughts of 20 m) to berth. 10 km of drainage system and 130 km of electrical ducts have been installed to supply the 100 lighting poles, cranes, and various facilities with electricity. Eiffage Énergie Systèmes’ subsidiary RMT has scaled and built the 21 MW power distribution plant covering the whole site.
This first section of the works was completed to schedule thanks to the synergy between our two subsidiaries.
