Celebrations for the completion of the A89-A6 link road works are an outstanding success

Under the spring sunshine, it was party time on Sunday 28 January on the Sémanet viaduct built by Eiffage Métal to link the A89 to the A6 to the north of Lyon.

More than 3500 local residents and APRR & Eiffage employees, along with many who were just curious, took part in the festivities on Sunday 28 January to celebrate the end of 18 months’ work on the A89-A6 link road to the north of Lyon, the final link in the Trans-European motorway, fully connecting Geneva to Bordeaux.

A festive and symbolic parade on the viaduct, a procession of vintage cars, Zumba, DJs, food trucks and even daylight fireworks blazing along the 220 metre long structure, were on the programme for this particularly successful day.

A giant elephant crossed the viaduct
The crowd were especially excited by a giant mechanical elephant which came straight from the Nice carnival, symbolising the crossing of the Alps by the legendary Hannibal and his elephants. The castle in Geneva, the wines of Bordeaux and even Bambi, representing the perfect match of this structure with its natural site, also took part in this great parade, which delighted both young and old alike.

The regional media (TV, radio, press and web) covered the event widely, which will be followed soon by the commissioning of this new 5.5 km long strategic link, planned for the end of February 2018.
