A 100% permeable pavement by Eiffage Route in Saint-Nazaire (44)

On the Côte d'Amour road in Saint-Nazaire, our Eiffage Route teams have installed a 100% permeable pavement over a 50-meter section.

A full-scale demonstration inspired by the ÉcOasis® concept.

An initial test demonstrated the infiltration capacity by simulating an intense rainfall event using recycled water.

How does it work?

Water is immediately absorbed by a porous asphalt, stored in a reservoir before infiltrating into the water table.

The challenge of this type of development is to produce a pavement that is both draining and capable of withstanding heavy traffic. This has been achieved here, as this thoroughfare sees 150 buses a day in addition to traditional traffic.

An innovation integrated into a regional project

This achievement is part of the Hélyce+ project, Saint-Nazaire's future BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) network. It foreshadows a new generation of urban infrastructure that combines technical performance, sustainability and adaptation to climate change.

A big thank you to Saint-Nazaire Ville & Agglo for their trust and congratulations on their commitment to more sustainable mobility.

Collecting and storing rainwater to preserve a precious resource, nourish vegetation planted along the roadside and limit runoff: it makes a difference.
