Sustainable development policy

With climate change now a tangible reality, and worldwide demand for sustainable and resilient cities and infrastructure, Eiffage sees low-carbon construction as an opportunity to make the difference.

Turning low-carbon construction into an opportunity

We have made the ecological transition and innovation the two key drivers of our strategic plan. That’s why our innovation policy and our R&D investments are geared towards the low-carbon economy. We aim to reduce total emissions across the entire value chain of our businesses. To bring this about, we need to take the lead by reducing our own emissions significantly. As a construction company, our role is also to help our customers cut their own emissions by introducing our low-carbon solutions wherever possible, in line with our strategy and our values. 

A seamless approach built on seven inextricably linked pillars

To speed up implementation of these solutions, our sustainable development policy is built around seven inextricably linked pillars: new forms of mobility, renewable energies and energy performance, low-carbon design and construction, new digital applications, urban agriculture, biodiversity and ecological engineering, and the circular economy. We harness our ability to innovate to make progress in these seven areas so we can deliver seamless solutions that meet the full spectrum of low-carbon needs and safeguard the sustainability of cities and infrastructure. 


Pillar 1: New forms of mobility

Eiffage’s teams help to develop new low-carbon forms of mobility by incorporating technological innovations and addressing the challenges facing the environment and society.  


Pillar 2: Renewable energies and energy performance

Eiffage pursues three energy- and energy performance-related goals – finding alternatives to fossil fuels, unlocking energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  

To this end, the Group innovates by installing energy facilities (power plants, wind farms, etc.) generating renewable energies and recovering energy from its waste and construction sites.  


Pillar 3: Low-carbon design and construction

The Group aims to become a leader in low-carbon design and construction. The focal point of these efforts will be developing the use of biosourced materials and employing energy-efficient materials and buildings by promoting alternative solutions


Pillar 4: New digital applications

One of the Group’s top priorities is to encourage the smart management of urban assets to help shape the sustainable cities of the future. Eiffage harnesses innovative solutions geared to the new digital applications to achieve this goal.  



Pillar5: Urban agriculture

The Group implements an expanding array of initiatives to address increasing urbanisation, which are now systematically integrated in its major urban development projects. The goal is to reintroduce nature and market gardening into towns and cities and capitalise on the numerous associated health and environmental benefits.  


Pillar6: Biodiversity and ecological engineering

To mitigate the impact of its projects on nature and biodiversity, our Group favours measures to avoid and reduce any environmental damage. It is also developing genuine environmental offset expertise.  



Pillar 7: Circular economy

Eiffage reuses and recycles materials from its sites wherever possible to reduce and recover waste. The Group has established itself as a leading contender in the circular economy, employing selective deconstruction, sharing best practices internally, and recycling specific materials.

Group-wide focus on developing low-carbon solutions

To implement this policy we draw on the expertise of our business lines, which are firmly focused on reducing sources of greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the consequences of climate change. All our business lines and all our employees have a role to play in this transition to a low-carbon economy. On a daily basis, we conduct campaigns to inform and raise awareness, share best practices, demonstrate new techniques and roll out new low-carbon technical solutions.
