Our Biodiversity Action Plan

Following on from the initial action plan launched in 2020, Eiffage is renewing its commitment alongside the French Biodiversity Agency for the period 2023–2025 with 186 action points for all Group business lines. This three-year undertaking confirms Eiffage’s status as a “business committed to nature”.

Commitments drawn from a decade of partnerships and experimentation

For more than 10 years, Eiffage has been committed to preventing biodiversity erosion, with support from experts and associations such as Humanité et Biodiversité, and the IUCN though its “Countdown 2020” strategy. These successive commitments have enabled the Group to strengthen a business culture that is respectful of nature, constantly assessing our impacts on natural habitats and our dependencies on ecosystem services. They have made it easier to operationally incorporate protection of the natural world into our contracting and concessions business lines.

  • 2012 to 2018: commitments made as part of the French government’s National Biodiversity Strategy (NBS).
  • July 2018: commitment under the Act4Nature initiative, an alliance between business networks, scientists, NGOs and the French Biodiversity Agency (AFB) with support from Nicolas Hulot, then the Minister for Ecological and Inclusive Transition.
  • December 2019: participation in the French Biodiversity Agency’s “Businesses Committed to Nature – Act4Nature France” initiative.
  • 2020 to 2022: Eiffage’s biodiversity strategy and first Biodiversity Action Plan.

Biodiversity Action Plan: a commitment by all Eiffage Group business lines

In 2023, Eiffage produced its second three-year Biodiversity Action Plan with the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB), a continuation of its action to promote biodiversity through an ambitious approach led by the Group’s business lines themselves. Across the four thrusts of the Group’s biodiversity strategy, 186 operational actions have been identified in Eiffage’s 23 business areas across all divisions – these will be monitored by the Group’s Executive Committee. These actions are intended to reduce our impacts on ecosystems, add value to our operations in environmental terms, and boost our expansion into new green activities. They are underpinned by a commitment to change management, through employee training, the transformation of our activities at every level, and the rollout of internal and external collaborations to make it a reality with a collective dynamic.
