Davis Cup: Pierre-Mauroy stadium selected to host semi-final

The venue was selected over Marseille thanks to its sliding roof that can cater to adverse weather conditions.

The French Tennis Federation has decided which city will host the France-Serbia semi-final of the Davies Cup, due to take place on 15-17 September 2017. Lille, with the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, has been selected to host the event that will see the French team with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga play Serbia with Nowak Djokovic.
This is another successful result for the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, ideally suited for both outdoor and indoor sports events, which already hosted the final of the Davis Cup between France and Switzerland in 2014. Bernard Guidicelli, president of the French Tennis Federation, explained that the choice was motivated by the fact that the stadium allows the match to be played outdoors but with the roof as protection against any adverse weather conditions.
In 2014, the Cup Davies final match at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium saw record numbers of spectators fill the stadium, some 27,000 in total.
