Eiffage Énergie Systèmes Transport & Distribution takes part in bringing green electricity to West Africa

A consortium comprising Eiffage Énergie Systèmes Transport & Distribution and Elecnor, set up to build 11 225/30 KV substations in 18 months, is to carry out several projects based in three different countries: Gambia (2 substations) Guinea-Bissau (4 substations) and Guinea (5 substations). Our teams are thus to start by clearing and levelling the ground, before installing the facilities. A grand total of 2,000 employees will be mobilized on these worksites in the tropical zone.
The four OMVG member states will contribute to financing the project, together with several funders including the World Bank via the International Development Association, French Development Agency, European Investment Bank, African Development Bank, West African Development Bank, German bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau and Kuwait Fund for Development (KFAED).

The electrical interconnection project aims to accelerate social and economic development in the OMVG member countries by providing their populations with better access to electrical power and is based on rational and harmonious use of their hydropower resources. The work undertaken by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes Transport & Distribution’s teams will allow them to take part in distributing 100% renewable hydropower energy in compliance with the environmental and societal challenges defined by the international funders of this ambitious project. 

The project is now in its production phase.
