APRR prepares for winter !

#APRRpreparelHiver: this is the hashtag that was launched during the APRR group internal winter maintenance (WM) competition which took place recently near Clermont-Ferrand in Auvergne. A look back at this great annual WM challenge in preparation for the winter season.

Fanny, Lucie and Myléne (photo of one), all three highway agents from the Lyon-Chambéry operational unit, travelled to Gannat in Auvergne last 16 October. This 100% female team fully intended to do battle with their colleagues of other APRR and AREA sites in eight trials preparing us for the winter season.
Fittingly, a programme was specially designed for them by teams in the Auvergne region, including mounting a snow plough against the clock, snow clearing (using sawdust!), a forward and reverse gymkhana circuit and of course the loading of salt and deicers into salt spreaders with gram-like precision.
A gathering of some 200 people
In total, twelve teams of three agents from the APRR and AREA highway operational units (districts) faced off throughout the day in a fun and friendly atmosphere, under the trained eyes of the invigilators and other event timekeepers. Dozens of referees and checkers were also specially dispatched from all the APRR group divisions and sites.
A concrete way of understanding the technicality and rigour of their colleagues’ snow clearing activities!
Four WM Trophies awarded
The three Rhône-Alpes snow clearing agents certainly gave it their all, however they failed to win a top three spot. The WM Gold Trophy was won this year by the aptly named Val-de-l'Isère district, while the Dijon unit won the Silver and the Bronze went to the Auvergne district.
Occupational prevention and safety during these delicate operations was also largely taken into account in the scores. The Gâtinais-Île-de-France team won a special prize rewarding its efforts and positive results in prevention and safety.
In line with this internal event, APRR is putting on pre-winter events on the A6 from Saturday 27 October for travellers taking breaks in the Mâcon rest areas in the Saône-et-Loire department.
Yes, it’s official: #APRRpreparelHiver !
