Crédit Agricole regional headquarters near La Rochelle on track for the Green Solutions Awards

The 19,000 sq. m positive energy office building, built in 2016, has been awarded Bepos Effinergie and NF HQE exceptional tertiary building certification.

The Crédit Agricole Charente-Maritime / Deux Sèvres regional headquarters located in Lagord close to La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime) and built by Eiffage in 2016, is remarkable in more ways than one. The building’s architecture, designed by Ory & Associates Architecture Studios, makes a statement with its X-shape that draws on natural light, and its showpiece, an auditorium in the shape of a giant copper pebble. The building’s orientation was designed according to solar gains, wind and local development factors.

The 19,000 sq. m office building is also outstanding in terms of energy, and has been awarded Bepos Effinergie and NF HQE exceptional tertiary building certification. This is a positive energy building that produces its own electricity thanks to 2,600 sq. m of solar panels and 35 geothermal probes that descend 250 metres underground, complete with 9 km of networks that allow heat exchange – making it one of the largest geothermal sites in France. In addition, the building has 22 cm- thick exterior insulation and its 1,003 windows have breathable triple glazing and integrated electric shutters.

With its significantly reduced carbon impact, the building’s environmental performance goes beyond 2020 eco-building standards and reflects best practices in the field: energy management, water management, choice of materials, environmental integration, user comfort, etc. The site has been submitted for the Green Solutions Awards organised by the Construction 21 platform.

Three Eiffage Group subsidiaries were extensively involved in the project: Eiffage Construction Poitou-Charentes acted as the project’s general contractor and was able to find the right local partners (over 80% of companies used were local) and coordinate the site with in-house production for the construction works and more than 200 workers on site at the height of the works; facade specialist Goyer designed and built the glazed frames used to create the ultra-high performance thermal skin; Eiffage Route Sud-Ouest carried out the major earthworks and the various network roads for the entire project.
